John started with the company as a salesman in 1986, coming from a small business background and has worked his way through to his current position which he has held since 2002. John’s sales results were always outstanding (in his last year in the field selling – he personally conducted well over 200 individual property transactions) but it was his strategic planning and leadership abilities that ultimately enabled him to reach the top of his profession.

John has been heavily involved in the sales and marketing of new homes and residential developments right from his early days at Independent and he continues to work very closely with many of Canberra’s leading builders and developers.

John has regularly been asked to address national property conferences’ on topics such as leadership, marketing, customer service and training and he delivered two key note addresses at the Real Estate Institute of Australia’s inaugural National Sales Conference in 2010. He has also recorded an audio program on leadership and is often asked for market commentary by local and national media.

John is very passionate about people and property and is dedicated to ensuring that Independent Property Group continues to lead the real estate industry through innovation and the delivery of outstanding service, advice and most importantly results to their clients.

John Minns has a passion for the real estate industry and his leadership skills combined with his drive to discovering better ways of delivering sales results, client service and marketing excellence have been integral to this success.

John was involved in working on the front line of real estate sales at Independent Property Group for over 15 years as a salesperson, manager and principal. During his last 2 years in the field he personally completed over 220 property transactions whilst also leading one of Independent’s most productive and profitable sales teams. He attributes his success to, “recognising the importance of developing strong networks and relationships, implementing and honing proven success strategies and pursuing continual innovation and improvement in all aspects of the real estate business.”

Staying at the cutting edge of industry practice is very important to John and this is evident from his active involvement with and overall responsibility for sales performance across the Independent network; training and development; client relations; marketing; and developing and maintaining relationships with both personal and corporate clientele.

In 2009 John was awarded the Real Estate Institute of the ACT’s President’s Award for services to the industry which recognised his long term contribution to professional development and training to the wider Australian industry, advice to and negotiation with government for key reforms and industry leadership for over 10 years. He is recognised as an industry authority by the ACT Government and is regularly approached for comment by local media commentators in relation to market trends and current activity levels.

Married to Jennifer and with increasingly independent son Michael and daughter Casey, John’s inspiration and major passions in life are his family, friends and business network. “There’s nothing like an honest assessment from your kids to keep you grounded!” he says.

John is more excited today than ever about the future of the industry and the opportunities it presents. “We have a great team,” says John, “and it is a privilege to work with both successful industry leaders and also a wonderful group of clients who have helped us to grow Independent to where it is today.”

Stan Platis is Executive Director of Strategic Development for Independent Property Group (IPG). Starting as a salesperson in 1991, Stan’s sales and listing results combined with focus and drive inspired by the early junior world title and world records he held in power lifting, saw Stan quickly promoted to his management role.

As a member of IPG’s leadership group, Stan’s passion for excellence sees him work closely with leading real estate sales performers across Australia. “In promoting who we are and what we do at IPG we are building strong corporate relationships between our Company and the community. Recruiting and supporting the best real estate professionals gives IPG a strong foundation on which to build this vision”.

Stan is a Director of the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) and a Councilor of the Real Estate Institute of the ACT (REIACT). From 2002 to 2005 Stan served as President of REIACT and consulted broadly with the ACT Government on legislative reform. A member of the 2004 Australian Olympic Games Team Fund (ACT Appeal) Committee, Stan also Co-Chaired the 2005 World Vision sponsored Operation Hope Appeal, which rebuilt more than 25 homes destroyed by the Sri Lankan Tsunami. Stan is currently Corporate Chair of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

In 2006 Stan won REIA Community Service Award and received a Diploma of Associate of the REIA. In 2010 he received the REIA’s highest honor of Fellow, in recognition of his services to the Industry. An accomplished speaker, Stan most recently addressed the International Division of the Hawaiian Realtors Association at the prestigious Pacific Club in Honolulu.

In 2013 conjunction with Australia’s leading Real Estate Academy, Stan developed The Real Estate Success Program (TCRESP) for cadets coming into the profession. This innovative program will revolutionise learning and career opportunities for those entering the real estate profession.

Peter joined IPG at the beginning of 2010 to lead the finance team and to provide expert stewardship of IPG’s financial processes. Peter has successfully implemented improvements to processes and reporting, while also providing IPG with expert financial modelling and strategy advice. His focus is balanced between the smooth running of the financial aspects of IPG’s current business operations as well as providing strategy and structuring advice for business growth initiatives including mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to his move to IPG, Peter was a Director with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was a tax and business advisor to a wide spectrum of clients. Peter’s clients included ASX listed companies, government agencies and medium sized businesses. Peter’s work with PwC spanned 20 years during which he developed expertise in:

  • Business structures that manage commercial risks
  • Tax planning and compliance
  • Business strategy and best practices for financial operations
  • Business restructuring and process improvement, with a focus on efficient processes with appropriate controls and governance.

Peter has a passion for growing businesses. He established and chaired the Canberra Business Council’s “Small Business Task Force” and has been active with other organisations in coaching start-up and emerging enterprises.

Peter is a Chartered Accountant, Registered Tax Agent, a Chartered Tax Advisor, and holds a Masters in Taxation in addition to his Bachelor of Commerce.

Peter is married to Sandra, and outside of work they balance their time between family sporting activities, including their son Matthew’s basketball tournaments. Peter is also a part-time professional sports photographer with a specialty in motorsports, and he is trying to improve his swimming for his triathlon efforts.

Pam joined Independent Property Group in 1998 and is now our Corporate Services Manager. In this role she oversees all areas of Executive Assistant and administration support to the CEO and Corporate Managers.

This also includes domestic and international travel bookings for individuals and groups as well as organising all Board, Shareholders, Principal, Managers and Directors meetings and taking minutes for each.

Pam is also responsible for organising all our company functions including our Annual Awards Dinner, VIP trips, Christmas Dinners, award lunches, social events and barbeques.

When she isn’t busy making sure everything runs smoothly at the office, you’ll find Pam down at the golf course working on her swing.
